Eugene '08: Fan Fest Events for Friday, July 4 As America celebrates Independence Day, the Festival will focus on the American athletes who have given great performances throughout the years. The grand finale will be a fireworks display just after the conclusion of the Men's 10K.

4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. - Music by Trio Vorenezh. Plus, showcase of US Athletes and Butte to Butte highlights.
5:30 to 10 p.m. - Live coverage of meet. 10 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. - Music by Fighting Instruments of Karma Marching Band. Also, showcase of US athletes.
Festival - 3 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
Highlights include fireworks at 10 p.m.

Now, he has a big job ahead of him. Soon he'll be working alongside America's best athletes at the Olympic Games in China.

There will be an All-Comers Meet for youth 12 and under. Eugene '08 Festival music and entertainment will be youth oriented. All youth participating in the All-Comers Meet will receive a t-shirt donated by Nike.

New Olympic Sport?

Broadcast policy for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials prohibits stations from covering live events from Hayward Field. But as Sam Adams found out, there's plenty of worthy competition to be found outside of the venue.

Local Businesses Slower than Expected

Eugene, Ore. -- There were thousands of people inside Hayward Field once again Sunday. Many local businesses right by the University of Oregon say they've been slower than expected since the track trials began, even more so than on a typical weekend. The restaurants downtown with outdoor seating seemed to be doing the most business.

The organizing group, Lane County Coalition Students for a Democratic Society, says that the olympic trials at Hayward Field have caused a series of problems for the poor and homeless community here in Eugene. They hoped that today's rally would help others understand exactly what's going on.

Eugene '08: Fan Fest Events for Friday, June 27 This day acknowledges the last Olympic Team decided at Hayward Field which was unable to compete because of the boycott of the Moscow Games. The Eugene 08 Festival will showcase 1980's music and highlights from the 1980 Trials.

Highlights include: Autographs and interviews of the 1980 Team, Tree Climbers, Safeway Power Station and author signings at the Track Town booth.

Eugene '08 Expected to Bring Large Profits to the City

Eugene, Ore. -- Eugene 08 and all its athletic glory is less than 24-hours away.

Financially, the city is going to make some huge profits from the trials. The Eugene Chamber of Commerce estimates the event will bring in 28 million dollars.

Lane County residents will reap the benefit of track being a big part of the economy for the next several years.

If you are planning on going to Hayward Field or the Eugene 08 Festival, here is a list of what you can bring with you:

 

  • You may bring one soft-sided bag with dimensions no larger than 19”x10”x17”
  • The following items are allowed as long as they fit into the bag: clothes, cameras (without large telephoto lenses), cushions, empty water bottles, plastic tubes containing sunscreen, ointment, etc.
